This publication accompanies Jeremy Shaw's first exhibition in France, at the Center Pompidou, and his exhibition at the Swiss Institute in New York, which will then be held at the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania. Since the early 2000s, Canadian artist Jeremy Shaw has explored the human aspiration for transcendence through a multidisciplinary practice. Using techniques drawn from conceptual art and documentary film, he has developed a work that reveals the limits of culture and consciousness by creating narratives interspersed with metaphysical, anthropological and scientific questions. His innovative approach combines questioning about ultimate ends, superimposition of belief systems and science fiction with neuroscience and subcultures, to question the aspirations of man in a post-human era.
